The SunnySide Farm Story

SunnySide Farm was founded in 2021, rooted in a deep love for farm animals and a commitment to providing them with the most compassionate care possible. What began with just two calves has grown into a sanctuary for over 60 animals, each with their own story and a place to truly call home.

Our mission is to create a safe, loving environment for animals from all backgrounds, where they can live happy, comfortable lives. At the same time, we strive to foster meaningful, therapeutic connections between the animals, their caregivers, and the community. Through hands-on interactions and unique experiences, we invite others to share in the comfort, joy, and healing that these animals naturally bring.

SunnySide Farm is a New York State not-for-profit corporation and is proud to have recently been granted federal 501(c)(3) status.

Katie is a lifelong Warwick resident and devoted animal lover.  Katie is a lifelong Warwick resident and devoted animal lover. Before founding SunnySide Farm, she spent time helping at a local farm, where she formed a special bond with two calves she later adopted, Sunny and Layla. Determined to give them a place to truly call home, she moved them to the historic Drew Farm, now the heart of SunnySide Farm.  Alongside caring for the animals, Katie is a nurse practitioner specializing in oncology. Throughout her career, she has supported patients through some of life’s most difficult moments and witnessed firsthand the quiet comfort and healing animals can bring. That experience became the foundation of SunnySide Farm, where she now welcomes animals in need and creates opportunities for people to experience the same sense of connection, peace, and healing.

He spends countless hours at SunnySide, often from early mornings to late nights, making sure everything runs smoothly. Whether he’s fixing something, caring for the animals, or simply spending time with them, Gary brings a steady presence and deep compassion that helps make SunnySide feel like home.

Staff & Volunteers

Our volunteers are the heart and helping hands behind everything we do at SunnySide Farm. Their time, energy, and dedication make it possible for us to care for our animals and welcome guests each day. From socializing with the animals to tackling the less glamorous side of farm chores, they show up with compassion and a willingness to do whatever is needed.

We truly couldn’t do this without them, and we are so grateful for each and every one.

As she navigated her path after college, her time at Sunnyside helped her discover her true strengths. Caring for animals gives her a strong sense of purpose and confidence. As someone who struggles with anxiety, Sunnyside Farm has been life-changing. The calming rhythm of farm chores and caring for such loving animals helps her feel grounded and connected to nature. Meeting Katie and supporting such a meaningful mission has been a true gift.

Mike moved back to Warwick about a year ago after farming in the mountains of Western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina. While in the mountains, he raised heritage breed animals for both consumption and preservation, and continued farming in South Carolina before relocating. Back in Warwick, the one thing missing was the farm. Being able to help at Sunnyside fills that gap and benefits everyone involved, both human and animal. He finds great fulfillment in helping care for animals and contributing to a meaningful way of life.
